A 25-year-old man has been arrested and bailed in connection with an arson in Lavendon.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the incident which saw a fire started in the doorway of a house in The Glebe on Saturday at 12.30am. The fire spread quickly into the hallway, burning the door and curtain. A 21-year-old female and her 18-month-old son managed to escape the house before neighbours then helped put it out.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Alan Purkiss said: “This is a very serious incident which could have been fatal had the victim gone to bed.

“I am appealing for anyone in the area that knows anything about this fire to come forward and speak to me or call Crimestoppers anonymously.”

Anyone with information can call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
