IT might have resembled a swim more than it did a run this year but the Milton Keynes Marathon is returning in 2013.
And the second running of the 26.2 mile course is set to be even bigger than the first, with Skechers Performance Footwear already announced as the headline sponsor.
More than 3,000 athletes hit the streets and redways in Milton Keynes in April to take part in the first marathon in more than 30 years.
And more than £1 million was pledged to an array of different charities, making the inaugural event a huge success.
Andrew Hully, Race Director of Milton Keynes Marathon, says the event will be bigger and better next year and is hoping to attract a large field including both high achieving athletes and recreational runners.
“Milton Keynes is easily reached from the rest of the UK and Europe, we have a great communications network,” said Andrew.
“There is plenty of accommodation to suit all budgets and we are able to offer visitors to the area a great race with its own unique attractions.”
Pete Youell, MD for UK and Ireland, Skechers, said he was delighted to be part of the MK Marathon, which looks set to invite more than 5,000 athletes to take part in 2013.
“I am extremely excited to be part of such a huge racing event,” said Mr Youell. “Especially as this is the first time Skechers have been involved in sponsoring a marathon in the UK.
“We are anticipating the Milton Keynes 2013 Marathon to establish Skechers as a performance footwear brand and look forward to building a great relationship with the team.’’
