A Rolls Royce built for former city MP Robert Maxwell is this week for sale on eBay for £4,995.

The 1969 Silver Shadow is believed to the same vehicle that Mr Maxwell was caught driving one handed down the motorway – while shaving his chin with the other hand.

The prosecution hit local headlines shortly after the car was built for the flamboyant MP, who was later exposed for misappropriating a pension fund.

Born into poverty in Czechoslovakia, he was Labour MP for North Bucks between 1964 and 1970 .

He went on to build a publishing empire, owning the Daily Mirror, The People and New York Daily News.

In 1991 his body was found floating in the Atlantic Ocean near his luxury yacht.

Weeks later the Mirror Group pension scandal was exposed, with Mr Maxwell – who had multi million pound debts – accused of misappropriating the money.

The bidding for his Rolls Royce, sold by a private company, finishes tomorrow.

The listing gives the mileage as 81,000 and states the car had one previous owner.

Documents show it was built especially for Robert Maxwell.
