The Mayor of Milton Keynes, Councillor Brian White, is fit and raring to go after overcoming a nasty illness, caused by a bite to the eye from a mystery bug.

Mr White was bitten last Monday as he made his way to training for Strictly MK, which also features our own editor Olga Norford, but thought nothing of it at the time.

He said: “I made it to training and got through that but the next day I woke up and my eye was closing and I couldn’t stop shivering. I went to the walk-in centre where it was discovered I had shingles, so I was ordered to rest.”

Mr White missed the first MK Dons home game of the season as well as a Muslim festival at Campbell Park that he had been eagerly anticipating.

He said: “I was lucky that it was a fairly light week if it had been the week before I would have had to have cancelled a dozen engagements. The illness was bad but what was worse was the headaches.”

Mr White will now be attending his scheduled events this week.
