A centenarian enjoyed a cross-continental celebration when Emily Mills turned 100 on Sunday.
Mrs Mills, nee Rutherford, became the first resident of Flowers House, Newport Pagnell, to reach the age of 100
Born in County Durham, Mrs Mills was one of 16 children. And there must have been something in the water, as her four surviving sisters are aged 90, 91, 93 and 96, giving them a combined age of 470.
She married her husband Fred Mills 75 years ago in Chorleywood, where they lived together until moving to Newport Pagnell in 1987. Fred died in 1989, but his widow continued to live on her own in Newport Pagnell until last year when she moved into Flowers House.
The 100th birthday saw family visit from all over the world, including her son and daughter-in-law who flew over from the USA to share in the celebrations.
