Megan, who lives in Emberton, has just been selected as a member of the GB Indoor team. She already has a number of titles under her belt, the Scottish Boulder Champion, Welsh Lead Champion and was placed first overall for the selection of the GB team.

Climbing will feature for the first time in the Tokyo Olympics in 2020 and whilst Megan is aiming to take a place, realistically she is focussing on the Paris Olympics in 2024. As part of the build-up Megan will be competing in five European countries this year.

Naturally this does not come without the support of her parents and coach who travel around the country and beyond, providing transport, guidance and training to help her reach her full medal potential. Currently there is little funding within the sport and Megan’s parents are doing their best to meet the costs which run into thousands of pounds each year.

Once he was back down safely on terra ferma Mark said: “Megan is a powerhouse and I don’t believe I’ve ever had such a strong handshake from a 14 year old! Her dedication to the sport is second to none and that is evident by her commitment to training on average 12 -15 hours each week. I’m going to watch her progress with interest and support her on her Olympic journey.”
