TWO men were rescued by fire crews after they became trapped in their vehicles following an accident in Great Holm – as part of a training exercise
The exercise provided an opportunity for firefighters to carry out a mock crash recovery.
Mercedes-Benz, based in Tongwell, donated a truck and a Smart car for the fire service to use as part of the operation, giving the crew a rare opportunity to train with some of the latest vehicles on the market.
Fire crews treated the situation just as they would a real accident on the grid roads, using specialist cutting equipment to cut off panels and beams to safely gaining access to the injured drivers.
The team also made use of technology allowing them to draw on vehicle schematics, helping crews gain access to the victims much faster.
