Mercedes-Benz Milton Keynes is in the driving seat when it comes to helping young people get on the career ladder, appointing apprentice sales executives at its Kingston showroom.

The Kingston branch is one of the first retailers in Sytner Mercedes-Benz Division to appoint apprentice sales executives,working with national training provider Remit to deliver this work-based learning route.

The vehicle sales and customer service apprenticeships takes two years to complete, during which time apprentices work alongside qualified car sales executives to complete the vehicles sales apprenticeship at NVQ Level 2 and 3. This nationally recognised qualification is achieved by a combination of on-site training and group based learning supported by a trainer and assessor from Remit and a dedicated dealership mentor.

The first appointment in Milton Keynes was Alex Wombell, 20, from Bletchley. He joined just over 12 months ago after discovering the Sytner apprenticeship scheme through the Job Centre. Alex couldn’t find a way into car retail straight from school with the new Sytner apprentice programme giving him an opportunity with the largest prestige motor retail group in the UK . He is close to completing his apprenticeship and the Kingston retailer has promoted him with responsibility for sales of SMART cars.

Alex was joined on the apprentice scheme three months ago by Ashley Gilvray from Stony Stratford. Ashley found the Sytner Apprenticeship scheme through the National Apprenticeship site, the only sales apprenticeship scheme available in the retail motor sector at the time. At 19, Ashley has fulfilled her first ambition to start a career in motor retail. The scheme has evolved to embrace a strong customer service element that suits her friendly, outgoing manner.

The Sales Apprentice scheme was launched with immaculate timing as we are now experiencing a massive surge in sales since Mercedes-Benz launched the new generation of A-Class cars last year. Both Alex and Ashley bring fresh eyes and enthusiasm to delivering a great sales and customer service experience to new customers we are seeing everyday in our showroom.”
