Milton Keynes Council's care of elderly and disabled people is rated 'excellent'

The Domiciliary Care Service supports people in their own owns and in sheltered housing schemes,

This month it was awarded top marks in all areas by inspectors for the Care Quality Commission.

Councillor Nigel Long, Cabinet member for health and adult social care, has thanked all the staff who work in the service.

He said: “This really is an excellent inspection result. The service is well led and we want to see it grow and become available to more residents of MK who need to access it.”

Mr Long, who is pictured visiting a sheltered housing scheme, said it was the council’s “top priority” to ensure older and disabled residents can remain living in their own homes or in community settings.

His words come days after the council voted not to save cash by scrapping the sheltered housing warden service.

Meanwhile there was more success for the council this week after one of its sheltered housing schemes, Hungerford House, scooped a highly commended in the National Housing for Older People awards.

“It’s a service that the council should be really proud of,” said a spokesman for the Emerson Valley scheme.

The city’s Community Alarm Service won a gold award for consultation services with residents.
