Milton Keynes eatery presents its new look

After closing its doors for almost a fortnight, the pub has emerged from its refit looking smart and welcoming, with a stylish new look that accentuates all its traditional features and brings out the best in this gorgeous 18th century inn.

There is also a brand new summer menu, created by head chef Harry Wilson and sous Neal Grimble, who took home the silver for best chef in this year’s Milton Keynes Food & Leisure Awards just a fortnight ago.

Peach partner Frazer Sutherland, who oversaw the refurbishment, said that with the pub constantly busy from noon until night, the time had simply come for a bit of an update.

“The Black Horse is a very well used and popular pub that’s right at the heart of village life - old friends and new are always popping in. Being very well used, it just needed a bit of updating - a much loved friend in need of a bit of a lift, really,” he said.

“So, we’ve given it one, and are very happy with the results.”

Now, the cosy, low-ceilinged interior is positively glowing with its warm colour scheme of rich oranges, reds and rusts offset by touches of soft blue and silver. Familiar pieces such as the old settles and sofas have been re-upholstered with vintage kilim rugs in bright, spicy shades, and arranged around the bar, which also has a fresh new look and more spacious layout.

There are also elegant new booth seats. Antique pieces including pots, pans, ladles and funnels, sourced from The Antiques Association in Woburn, line the walls and team with new copper lighting to make the place glow.

To one side, yet not cut off from the main action, is an elegant new private dining space with a bespoke table in deep mahogany surrounded by tall tie backed velvet banquettes and grey leather and velvet backed chairs. Overhead a set of repurchased Victorian copper funnels creates a dramatic feature.

With a new hanging sign to the front of the pub sporting a bold chess board style Black Horse as well as a thorough wash and brush up outside, the pub is all set for a fantastic summer season of food, drink and good things to do.

“The Black Horse is a wonderful pub that’s an old friend to so many, and we know all our friends, old and new, will love our new look,” adds Frazer. “Make sure you pop in soon for a pint or a bite to eat - we’re looking forward to seeing you.”
