A Broughton firefighter has organised a charity quiz in memory of a baby boy who died when he was just 36 hours old.

Richard Allman hopes to attract 20 teams of up to six people to come along to Abbey Hill Golf Centre, Monks Way in Two Mile Ash on Sunday, May 25, in aid of The George Christopher Stansfield Memorial Trust, also known as Team George.

It’s after George sadly died after being deprived of oxygen during labour and since then his parents, Kirsty and Jonny Stansfield, of Oakridge Park, began fundraising to ensure their baby had a lasting legacy.

Richard said: “George’s parents Jonny and Kirsty are friends of mine, which is why I am organising this event. As well as hopefully being a successful night, it should also be a lot of fun.

“The money raised will be donated to the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, to go towards special baby-care equipment.

“Even if you can’t get to the event, any donation to the charity would be appreciated.”

After Team George ran the Milton Keynes Marathon last week, an incredible £37,000 has already been raised for the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford where George was treated in the intensive care neonatal unit.

The funds will be spent on two mobile ICU trolleys for the support for the sick newborns and their parents, at the hospital.

His father Jonny said: “The team at the hospital were unbelievable and supported both George and us in a way we can never thank them enough for. The care they showed our gorgeous baby boy was astounding, and everything they did for us made our situation a little easier.

“The support from our circle of friends and family has been amazing, and we cannot express how grateful we are to everybody.”

The quiz starts at 7.30pm and entry is £10 per person, which includes refreshments. There will also be a licensed bar, a raffle and prizes.
