Milton Keynes fishing lodge wins Best Small Commercial Project award at national awards show

Pochard Fishing Lodge in Great Brickhill has been awarded the national title of Best Small Commercial Project.

Leighton Buzzard building company, Chestnut Morgan, won national recognition at the grand final of the 2017 Local Authority Building Control Building Excellence Awards, one of the biggest events on the building industry’s calendar.

A panel of industry experts judged a list of the highest quality projects from around England and Wales to reward the best in technical innovation, sustainability and design.

They were impressed by Pochard Fishing Lodge which they described as a “superb project that incorporated a good choice of materials and excellent attention to detail that is fitting for its fantastic location.”

The project was also a finalist in the Best Inclusive Building category after steps were taken to ensure it was accessible for older generations and those with disabilities who can enjoy the nature and the surroundings of the lodge.

The lodge is a new clubhouse on the shore of Pochard Lake Fishery and offers members and visitors an impressive 180 degree view of the lake and has a light and airy feel that appeals to locals and visitors sampling the area and its wildlife for the first time.

Pochard Fishing Lake is two acres in size and was formed in the 1960s from a natural spring which historically provided all of the water for Great Brickhill. Today, the water provides an excellent habitat for trout as well as other bird and insect life.

Chestnut Morgan owner, Dave Morgan said: “We were honoured to win this prestigious award up against stiff competition from around the country.

“It’s a great credit to the whole team that this complex and challenging project was not only completed successfully but has gone on to get national recognition.”
