Milton Keynes hotel hosts charity sweepstake for Euro 2016

A group of workers from Milton Keynes are aiming to raise hundreds of pounds for charity during this summer's European Championships.

The Campanile Hotel on Penn Road, Fenny Stratford has entered a company-wide sweepstake to cheer on Poland to tournament victory at this summer’s football competition in France.

Each member of staff has agreed to take part in the sweepstake by donating one pound each every time their adopted country concedes a goal, which means every time Poland let a goal in, around £20 is put into the pot for charity.

If Poland achieve the glory at Euro 2016 then the Milton Keynes hotel will be able to choose which charity will receive the significant sum of money raised from the 17 other hotels nationwide.

“Euro 2016 is the talk of the town at the minute, so we want to capitalise on this by trying to channel all of this excitement towards a good cause,” said Kalps Jetha, general manager at the Campanile hotel.

“We have quite a broad European representation within our team so all of the staff have had one eye on this competition for a while. We’ll all be cheering for our home countries as well, but if they get knocked out, at least we’ll have our second sweepstake team to fall back on.

“Taking part is a great bit of fun and is a win-win for us. Poland got off to a great start against Northern Ireland at the weekend, and we’re hoping they can grab a record goals haul in this year’s competition and go all of the way so we get to choose the charity, but if our side’s defence proves to be wobbly, it means we’ll be able to make more of a difference to a worthy cause.

“Our Euro 2016 themed bar will also be showing every live game over the four weeks, so for those looking for a great atmosphere and some football banter, this is the place to be.”
