Milton Keynes man among gang of ten arrested for abusing young girls at sex parties

Yasar Majid and the other men were arrested after a victim’s boyfriend contacted the BBC when he saw a piece about sex abuse gangs, a court heard.

The girl, who had been passed around men at “parties”, got her partner to call the BBC news programme to reveal what was happening to young women wasn’t just restricted to Rotherham.

The men deny a total of 25 charges including rape and sexual assault against two victims over the period from May 2008 to July 2011.

The girls were 14 and lived in a care home when the abuse began, it is claimed.

The court heard much of the prolonged abuse took place at a house owned by Saeed Akhtar, 54, in Bradford, West Yorkshire, during parties.

Bradford Crown Court heard when both victims ran away from the home with a bottle of vodka one night, one of the men, Basharat Khaliq, 37, approached them and began grooming them for sex.

In the months that followed, the girls were subjected to a range of sexual abuse at the hands of Khaliq.

One girl was taken to meet other men, who would use a variety of different methods including “fear” and “manipulation” to “satisfy their sexual desires”, the court was told.

Prosecutor Kama Melly QC described how police had actually spoken to one of the teens after her number was found on a piece of paper during Operation Kellerabbey - a child abuse investigation centreing around Keighley, West Yorks.

Ms Melly said: ‘When girls or suspects were found police were given the task of finding them.

“In July 2013 [the victim’s] phone number cropped up. Her phone number was found on a piece of paper and police contacted her.

“The victim could not give relevant information to the operation, however, she explained her own experience of growing up. She told them she had been given alcohol and drugs and had become an addict.”

The prosecutor described how nothing was done by police until years later when the victim rang the television studio, and the BBC gave her name to police.

She said the girl was “cynically manipulated” by the defendants, who each visited the house during “parties”.

Akhtar told how the victim had said she was 18 and described her as “a slag who everyone had been to”.

Yasar Majid, 36, accepts he had sex with the victim on one occasion but claims she had consented and said she had “wanted to get jiggy”.

Parvaze Ahmed is alleged to have had sex with the victim “in multiple places” and faces three counts of rape against her. He told police she had “dragged him upstairs” and was “slagified”.

The court was told Izar Hussain, who faces three charges of rape, “employed fear to fulfill his sexual desires”.

The court heard how workers at the care home where both girls lived had concerns about where the victims were when they would repeatedly run away - but because it was not a restrictive unit they had no power to stop the teens.

Ms Melly said: “Girls in care don’t always see the exploitation and manipulation but that does not mean the exploitation was not occurring.

“These girls were sadly ripe and vulnerable to manipulation....It is not believed they were consenting.”

Majid denies a single charge of rape. The trial continues.
