The new mayor of Milton Keynes, Councillor Keith McLean, made a special guest appearance on BBC’s Radio 1 this afternoon to play the Mayor of Where game.

In the first week of his new role, Mr McLean joined radio show host Greg James, with fellow presenters Scott Mills and Chris Stark, who had to guess where he worked as mayor.

Mr McLean, who admitted he doesn’t often listen to Radio 1, said: “It was a great thrill to be on a radio station listened by four or five million listeners.

“I told the guys on there that if they added up how old they all are I would only be just a little younger - so I am more a Radio Two listener nowadays.”

Mr McLean says he gave the game away when he mentioned MK had a famous ‘jumper’ - Greg Rutherford.

He said: “They managed to guess it was Milton Keynes in the end. It was all good fun.”

Milton Keynes Council organised the appearance on the BBC show - giving Mr McLean just three hours to prepare some clue for the presenters.

A council spokesman said: “It was fantastic to hear our Mayor, Keith McLean playing the ‘Mayor of Where’ game with Greg James on BBC Radio 1.

“He did a great job representing MK and telling Radio 1’s millions of listeners what a great place it is to live and work in.”
