Her Majesty's Most Honourable Privy Council is a formal body of advisers.

Its membership mainly comprises senior politicians, who are current or former members of either the House of Commons or the House of Lords.

The role of the Privy Council is to advise on the exercise of the Royal Prerogative, it issues executive instruments known as Orders in Council, which among other powers enact Acts of Parliament.

It also advises on the issuing of Royal Charters. The historic Privy Council powers have now been largely replaced by the Government, but it still remains an important traditional role in the UK Parliamentary Process.

Mr Lancaster, who is now officially The Right Honourable Mark Lancaster, was sworn in at a meeting last Wednesday.

“I am deeply honoured to have been sworn in as a member of Her Majesty’s Most Honourable Privy Council. I will ensure I undertake the role with the seriousness and dedication it demands," he said.
