Milton Keynes MPs echo '˜you will not defeat us' message after Westminster attack

Five people have died following the attack in Westminster on March 22.

Iain Stewart, MP for Milton Keynes South, was in lockdown during the terror attack for almost six hours.

Iain was already in the chamber during the debate and was about to go out for the vote when the Deputy Speaker suspended parliamentary business.

Milton Keynes North MP Mark Lancaster was in his office heading out to vote when Parliament went into lockdown.

He was locked in there for around three hours, as the Defence Secretary had to attend a COBRA meeting at Downing Street, Mark was required to go to the Ministry of Defence and take over as Duty Minister.

A spokesperson said: “They knew there had been an incident outside and scale of things became clearer as the day went on.

“We cannot praise the response by the police and emergency services enough, they were fantastic.

“Running towards danger as other fled. We are equally grateful for the numerous messages of support from our constituents.

“This attack at the heart of our democracy was a direct attack on our nation and the values that we all hold dear and cherish.

“As an attack it failed and by remaining united, terrorists seeking to divide our nation will always be destined to fail.”
