A determined Milton Keynes mum who had both arms and legs amputated due to sepsis has organised a family fun day to raise cash for the best possible prosthetic limbs.

Kim Smith, 56, was given hours to live after a kidney infection put her in a severe sepsis coma in January.

The only ways doctors could save her life was to amputate both arms and both legs.

But Kim, who runs Stylish Events wedding decorations company with her daughter, vowed she would not let the loss of limbs stand in her way of leading a normal, active life.

She and her family researched the standard NHS prosthetic hands and legs and realised they would simply not be good enough.

So they launched a £35,000 crowdfunding appeal to pay for private limbs and other vital equipment to help Kim be independent again.

Already they have raised enough to buy one specially-made prosthetic hand and Kim, who lives in Bletchley, is over the moon to be able to brush her hair by herself and even help out with chores at home.

Her daughter Rebecca said: “Mum is amazing. She has been nothing but brave and heroic throughout.”

On Sunday the family is taking over Scots Club in Bletchley for a fun day spectacular that will start at 12 noon. There will be a live DJ, a barbecue, a bouncy castle, craft stalls, tombolas and a raffle.
