Milton Keynes rally in support of Jeremy Corbyn
Supporters of Jeremy Corbyn are being encouraged to attend a march and rally in central Milton Keynes this Thursday to show their continued support of his leadership of the Labour Party.
Marchers will meet in the square outside Marks & Spencers (opposite MK Council’s Civic Offices) at 6.15 pm.
After a short march around town they will be holding a meeting in the function room of the Slug and Lettuce pub, at the Theatre District, at 7pm.
Speaking at the meeting will be Adam Klug from Momentum, Chris Webb (Communication Workers Union national Director of Communications – in a personal capacity) and Charlie Wilson (MK Labour councillor – in a personal capacity).
“Defending Jeremy Corbyn is not simply about an individual. It is about a movement. A movement of hundreds of thousands of people, young and old, from every corner of the UK,” said Chris Webb.
“Last summer, the membership spoke and elected Jeremy Corbyn with the biggest ever mandate in political history. Our job is to ensure this once in a generation opportunity to give politics to the people is not taken from us in what is nothing but an undemocratic coup.
“Defend Jeremy Corbyn. Defend democracy.”
Momentum Milton Keynes, the group that supports Jeremy Corbyn within the Labour Party, have organised this rally to show that support for their leader amongst Labour’s members and supporters is as strong as ever.
Since the attacks on his leadership by MPs began more than 100,000 new members have joined the party.
Later this month Milton Keynes Labour Party will be holding a members only meeting where the local party will decide whether it supports Jeremy Corbyn or not in the upcoming leadership contest.
More than 110 local members have already signed an open letter calling on local Labour councillors to back their leader.
