Milton Keynes students celebrate success at graduation

Hundreds of students from the University of Bedfordshire celebrated years of hard work and dedication when they attended their graduation ceremony in Milton Keynes.

Students from the University’s Milton Keynes campus UCMK and partner colleges, who studied a range of courses gathered at the Church of Christ the Cornerstone on Saxon Gate to collect their awards in front of proud family and friends.

The university’s vice chancellor Bill Rammell, said at the graduation: “Think about the journey you have been on and resolve, here, today, never to stop learning. Never lose that curiosity, resilience and persistence that enabled you to achieve your degrees.

“If we have done our job right, you will be ready and eager to take the opportunities the world offers you to learn and grow, in the workplace, at home and in civil society.”

Among those collecting awards was Monica Ferguson, chief executive and artistic director of the Stables Theatre in Wavendon – she was presented with an Honorary Doctor of Arts for her contribution to the creative industries.

Monica, who is also chief executive of the Milton Keynes International Festival, told graduates: “Many of you will face even greater challenges ahead and may find it’s not a straight forward path to success.

“But enjoy the journey. Be open to interesting, if not immediately obvious, opportunities, because more often than not, the winding B roads are far more engaging than the grind of the motorway.”
