Milton Keynes town shuns a slice of the action from pizza giants

MK Council officers are recommending planning permission be granted - despite vowing two weeks ago that there should be a fast food ‘exclusion zone’ around all schools.

The Woburn Sands takeaway, formerly TJ Wines store, is less than 400 metres from Fulbrook School.

“We already have four pizza eateries and two takeaways in Woburn Sands. We don’t want any more,” said one resident.

The parish council and the town’s borough councillor have all objected to the plan - as have dozens of residents.

They say the site, at the jun ction of Station Road, is too busy already and the building, complete with planned neon-lit signage, would be an eyesore.

They also fear it would cause traffic congestion and parking problems.

Domino’s parent company DPSK are applying for change of use permission from an off licence to a takeaway.

The site is within the designated Woburn Sands conservation Area but the building, although it is old, is not historically listed.

Council officers consider the pizza takeaway would be an “appropriate” change of use that would not affect the 
viability of the town.

One protestor said: “MK Council announced only last month that it would be encouraging healthy eating by banning fast food outlets near schools. It is hypocritical of them to allow this pizza takeaway to go ahead.”

170 Woburn Sands residents who have signed a petition objecting to plans for a Domino’s pizz outlet in town. They say it will be an unhealthy eyesore.

The proposed takeaway, complete with giant extractor fan, is 12 metres away from the clost house. This is within recommended limits, say the council officers.

The change of use planning application will be considered by councillors on March 16. They have the power to ignore their council officers’ recommendations.
