Mr Boles said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for young people in Milton Keynes to get the skills that they need to build a great career.”

He added, “Milton Keynes Conservatives’ Apprenticeship Scheme will help us achieve our target of three million new apprenticeships by 2020.”

Should the Conservatives take control of Milton Keynes Council in May they have pledged to deliver 25 new apprenticeship vacancies this autumn with the hope of taking that number up to 100 over the next 2 years.

Labour group leader Councillor Pete Marland says the council has been taking on apprentices since 2014.

He added: “We’ve already gone further ensuring apprenticeships in our contracts.”
