MK Citizen team up with Milton Keynes Community Foundation to help families this Christmas

The Citizen is proud to award £1,374 to the '˜Supporting Xtra Special Families Project'.

The donation is the latest in the Citizen’s partnership with MK Community Foundation which is marking its 30th year.

The project aims to fund holiday fun sessions for families living with disabilities or additional needs.

The three workshops included an Umbanda drumming workshop,visit from a mobile farm and an interactive music workshop.

John, a parent who’s son visits the workshop, said: “My son is autistic and visually impaired, it’s great to come to this project as it gives him structure which he needs and he relishes.

“It’s nice to be able to chill and be in an accepting environment.”

Tom, a volunteer who has Asperger’s Syndrome, said: “When I was younger Ifelt uncomfortable, overwhelmed and alienated.

“I want to let these kids know to be themselves.”

The Citizen has worked with MK Community Foundation for nearly 20 years – helping the charity’s important work in across Milton Keynes.

Ruth, of Supporting Xtra Special Families, said: “I found, having a child with additional needs, that in the holidays, everything stops.

“That’s the reason we set up the group, our group encourages parents to bring siblings too, everyone’s welcome.”
