MK Gallery launches new filmmaking competition

MK Gallery has launched MK Young Filmmaker of the Year 2016, a new competition for young people aged 4-19 and will provide the opportunity to develop new, or showcase existing work.

The competition, which celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Milton Keynes Community Foundation, invites young people across Milton Keynes to produce and submit a short film (up to 3-minutes) of any genre in response to the competition theme.

Entrants are asked to respond creatively to the theme ‘city club’ - the name originally given to a national leisure complex planned for Central Milton

Keynes in the 1970s.

The winners plus a selection of entries will have their worked screened in the MK Gallery project space and across Milton Keynes at the end of the year with various prizes awarded to four age categories.

Carl Lewis, project assistant for MK Young Filmmaker, said: “As a young filmmaker based in Milton Keynes I have always wished for a stronger emphasis

on proactive arts and film development in the local community, so this year we are pleased to announce MK Young Filmmaker of the Year, with kind support from the Milton Keynes Community Foundation and delivered in association with Independent Cinema MK.

“It is fantastic to have this support for local young people, to help find their passion for the creative industries and I am so happy to be involved in helping to provide this opportunity to the local community.”
