The Mayor of Milton Keynes will work as a volunteer at stadium:mk during the Rugby World Cup.

Councillor Keith McLean will join 6,000 other volunteers from across the country who will welcome spectators.

The search for The Pack was launched in February 2014 with more than 20,000 applications and 10,000 interviews for the coveted role in every Rugby World Cup 2015 host city.

As a member of The Pack, Mr McLean will be working within spectator services; welcoming spectators and VIPs to the stadium and making sure they get to the area of the ground they are looking for.

He said: “I am really looking forward to being an official part of Rugby World Cup in Milton Keynes. I think I am the only Mayor who is in The Pack and hopefully I will be able to wear my Chain of Office while on duty.

“As well as helping welcome guests to the stadium I also have tickets to some of the games in my role as Mayor, so luckily have managed to change my shift, so I get the best of both worlds.

“To have Rugby World Cup in Milton Keynes is wonderful and schools, businesses and the three local clubs have really embraced it.

“Hopefully it will encourage people to get involved with sport.”

Cllr Hannah O’Neill, Deputy Leader for Milton Keynes Council added: “This is truly unique and another first for Milton Keynes. Keith is Rugby mad and I know he was very excited to be mayor while we were hosting Rugby World Cup.

“He will be a fantastic addition to The Pack with his knowledge of Milton Keynes and passion for Rugby.”
