The Milton Keynes Smart City Forum, run by the Open University, has been praised by Prime Minister David Cameron.

He said during Prime Ministers Questions: “I congratulate Milton Keynes for their representation on the Smart City Forum and for what the Open University is doing.”

The praise came following city MP Iain Stewart’s question, where he emphasised the innovative economy of Milton Keynes.

He asked: “Investing in research and innovation is essential for our economic future. Does the Prime Minister agree that the Open University’s new Smart City research project to improve infrastructure is just one example of how Milton Keynes is leading the way in securing our long term economic plan?”

In response Mr Cameron added: “I visited the Open University at Milton Keynes and it is an impressive organisation and is also leading a very important export drive in terms of our Universities.

“I think there are many opportunities for Milton Keynes, not least provided by HS2 as well, and I look forward to discussing them with him in the future.”

Milton Keynes is one of only five cities across the UK that makes up the forum which was launched late last year.
