‘Modern slavery in your backyard,’ a conference in Milton Keynes

Slaves are often hidden in plain sight
Slaves are often hidden in plain sight

The Bucks Federation of WIs is presenting a half day Conference on November 15  on the challenging but very contemporary subject of Modern Day Slavery.

You may be surprised to learn that slavery still exists in the UK – wasn’t it abolished under legislation back in the 19th century?

As with many laws, the reality of day to day life ignores the illegality of situations and slavery is no exception. Slaves are often hidden in plain sight – as nail technicians, car wash attendants, or cleaners.

The WI invites you to join us to hear our Panel of speakers, which includes experts on this challenging topic from The Salvation Army.

There will be the chance for group debate and contribution – what could you do to make changes and raise awareness in your area?

The conference is being hosted at The Ridgeway Centre (Theatre), Featherstone Road, Wolverton, between  1pm to 4.30pm on Thursday, November 15.

Cost: Tickets are £12 for WI Members or £14 otherwise. Visit www.buckswfi.org.uk for more information.
