A CRISIS prayer meeting organised by Japanese monks raised more than £3,000 for tsunami relief on Sunday.

Dozens attended the multi-faith prayers at Willen’s Nipponzan Myohoji Temple.

Many gave cheques towards the disaster fund set up by the resident monks

“More donations are coming all the time,” said spokesman Bandula Chandraratna. “We will be forwarded them to a charity in Japan to utilise towards the tsunami victims.”

City mayor Debbie Brock was one of the guests at Sunday’s ceremony, where prayers were said by representatives from local Christian, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim, Pagan, Quaker and Sikh communities.

Donations to the monk’s tsunami fund (charity number 291359) can be made via Lloyds Bank.
