AN auction has raised more than five thousand pounds for humanitarian charity, Aviation Without Borders.

The Cranfield Air Transport Charity Event took place on Friday, May 18 at the Student Association of Cranfield University.

In all it raised £5,086 – more than double the amount raised last year.

Head of the Air Transport Department, Professor Graham Braithwaite, said: “I am absolutely thrilled the auction raised so much money for such a worthwhile charity as Aviation Without Borders.

“Their mission to provide humanitarian assistance through aviation services irrespective of politics, religion, race or nationality fits perfectly with the wonderful diversity of students that come to Cranfield to study air transport management.”

The event had been organised by this year’s MSc. Class in Air Transport and Airport Management.

Students had managed to collect more than 100 items from various companies, including flight vouchers and a multitude of aviation collectables, which were all auctioned on the evening.

A raffle, consisting of smaller scale prizes, was also held, with more than 120 guests attending the event.
