Mother and daughter sign up for climb

The 16-day challenge will take Tarin Rule and her daughter, Mercedez Winter, through jungle, moorland, highland desert and ice to the 19,341ft summit of Kilimanjaro, in Tanzania.

Tarin, who owns family business Auction Keynes, said: “This will definitely be a personal challenge. I think the most daunting part is thinking about how high Kilimanjaro is.

“Because it’s for a worthy cause, it’s a lot easier to agree to do something that you wouldn’t normally do.

“I have been overwhelmed by my family and friends’ positive reaction and eagerness to help me train and fundraise. Our customers have been great and are so encouraging.

“I am really looking forward to doing the trek with Mercedez. We have a really good relationship and the climb will be a lovely experience we can share as a memory.”

Mercedez said: “I have always wanted to do something like this. Hopefully I can create more awareness and raise money for a good cause. I think what Helen & Douglas House do is great for young people with terminal illnesses and their families.”
