Have you got the Code? This is the question an MP is asking city charities.
MP Iain Stewart is encouraging local charities to set up their unique 6-digit code with Vodafone to enable them to use the JustTextGiving service.
The Service is free to set up, with every penny donated going to the charity, and works by allowing individuals to make donations by text message. Donations can be made by customers of any network provider without network charges and gift aid can also be claimed on each donation.
It is estimated that text donations could be worth £96 million annually by 2014.
Commenting on the scheme, Mr Stewart said: “I would encourage our local charities to take advantage of this free service. We already have a great spirit of philanthropy in Milton Keynes and the JustTextGiving service is a quick, free and convenient way for people to donate to local charities that are making such a difference to many people’s lives across our area”.
JustTextGiving was developed by Vodafone on a not-for-profit basis. Interested charities can register for a unique 6-digit Vodafone Individual code at www.justtextgiving.co.uk. The mobile provider does not profit from the service.
