MP visits city to discuss MK's booming young population

Sharon Hodgson MP for Washington and Sunderland West will discuss MK’s booming young population while meeting staff and children at the Redway School in Netherfield.

The number of children and young people growing up in MK is above the national average.

Despite fierce cuts to council services, MK is one of the few councils in the country to keep all their children’s centres open.

Leader Mr Marland said: “Although there will be changes in the way many are being run and organised the really important thing is that we have been able to keep all our children’s centres open and providing vital services for young children and families.

“We are delighted that Sharon will be visiting Milton Keynes and we look forward to explaining the great work that these centres provide.”

Ahead of her visit to Redways School, Sharon Hodgson MP, Shadow Minister for Children, said: “It is important that the ethos throughout our education system is that all children, including those children with a special educational need or disability, receive the best education possible so they can reach their full potential.”

She will be joined by the leader of MK Council Pete Marland and his cabinet members to discuss issues surrounding children’s services.

The Redway school provides a first class educational setting for over 150 children with severe disabilities and learning needs right up the age of 18.

It is renowned as one of the best of its kind in the country.
