Both the city’s MPs have spoken out in favour of new plans announced by Virgin Trains today to make improvements to their timetables.

The move will see more services operating through Milton Keynes Central station and up to areas including the West Midlands and Scotland and down to London Euston every day during peak times.

MP for Milton Keynes North, Mark Lancaster said: “This is fantastic news and the improvements made to the Virgin Trains timetable will have a positive effect on Milton Keynes. I know my colleague, Iain Stewart MP has been campaigning hard for our commuters and further proof, that Milton Keynes is a vibrant economic hub in which infrastructure continues to support our growth and expansion.”

Milton Keynes South counterpart, Iain Stewart, said: “I am very glad to see Virgin putting on extra services. Anyone commuting to London knows how full peak time trains can be. While I would still like to see more Virgin services available for MK commuters in the morning and even peaks, this is a welcome step in the right direction.

“London Midland are also having additional coaches built to help ease overcrowding and the East-West Rail Project opens up the possibility of new MK to London services via Aylesbury. Longer term, HS2 along with additional updates expected on the West coast Mainline will further help commuters. I will continue to campaign hard.”
