Councillor Rob Middleton said: “I am proud that the city council is leading the development of this important new medical practice in the Western growth area. We agreed the funding previously.

“Now I am putting in place the framework to deliver the medical centre.”

The new medical centre, once built will become the home of medical and social care services.

Councillor Nigel Long added: “Once the next stage of appointing the successful builder for the site is completed, NHS and social care bodies along with service users will be involved in the design of the new centre.

“Not only is this week’s decision about new medical provision it is about developing an integration of health and care services.”

The centre will provide GP services but wider health services are also being discussed.

Conservative councillor Denise Brunning who serves Stony Stratford, said: “I am delighted this new facility is coming.

“In Stony patients lists are full and new residents in Whitehouse are being redirected to other surgeries.

“I will be talking to the Council to see if there is any way this date can be brought forward perhaps through a staged delivery “

Councillor Edith Bald added: “Our local surgery is Westcroft and its overloaded even before the new houses in Oxley PArk, Kingsmead South and Tattenhoe Park are taken into account.

“It’s going to be two more difficult years before the new facility comes but at least there is light at the end of the tunnel.

“Good public transport form my ward to Whitehouse is going to be really important so that patients can get to the new facility.”
