Musical memories of Milton Keynes with the Living Archive

They were probably nice young chaps with a family.’

Those are the words of Hawtin Mundy, a Wolverton Works man and New Bradwell resident for nearly nine decades, about his time in the Great War.

And this weekend you can hear his voice - and the voices of other local men and women whose life stories throughout the 20th century have been collected by Living Archive Milton Keynes.

As the 50th anniversary of the designation of Milton Keynes new city approaches in 2017, here is a chance to celebrate its unique past.

Living Archive MK has been recording and celebrating the stories of the city’s people for more than thirty years - and the Living Archive Band has been turning those memories into songs.

Their songs describe the lives of ordinary people like Hawtin’s experience of war in The Valley of the Shadow – or Cotton and Fluff, about the women who worked in the sewing room at Wolverton Works.

With a slide show of local photographs from Living Archive’s massive collection, and a live performance from the acclaimed Living Archive Band, it will be a unique chance to hear and see what people said about the place that became Milton Keynes - and to enjoy first-class music that’s both home-grown and universal.
