A new assistant Chief Constable for Thames Valley Police’s neighbourhood policing and partnerships has taken up his post today.

Alan Baldwin joined Thames Valley Police back in 2008 where he worked as Head of Tasking and Resilience, BCU Commander for Milton Keynes and a period as Acting Assistant Chief Constable responsible for Crime and Counter Terrorism.

In his new role, ACC Baldwin will be responsible for criminal justice, neighbourhood policing and partnerships and the Force Control Rooms and Enquiries Department as well as leading local policing for Buckinghamshire.

Mr Baldwin said: “I am looking forward to starting my new role.

“I am excited about being able to support the delivery of justice for victims and witnesses across Thames Valley and to be responsible for neighbourhood policing which is so important to local communities.”

In the 27 years since he started his career with Ministry of Defence Police, Alan has worked for West Mercia Police and the Metropolitan Police, before joining Thames Valley Police as area commander for Milton Keynes. He has spent half his career as a detective and half in uniform roles.

In his new role Alan’s time will be split across the three counties of the Thames Valley.

He has lived most of his life in Buckinghamshire with his family and in his spare time he enjoys keeping fit, running and cycling.

Although Alan has now hung up his football boots having played for a number of local teams for many years he continues to coach a youth team in Milton Keynes.

Alan said: “I am really proud to be policing the county that I was born in, went to school in and grew up in.

“I know and understand many of the different communities within Bucks however I am always keen to hear from people about their experiences, concerns and how we can fight crime and keep people safe.”

Chief Constable Sara Thornton said: “I am really pleased to welcome Alan to the chief officer team in Thames Valley Police. Alan is a very experienced operational leader who has been with the Force for six years and has a real passion to protect and serve the public.”
