The Mayor hosted a lunch on a cruise down the canal to show his support for the Bedford and Milton Keynes Waterway Project.
Brian White hosted the VIP lunch on the Grand Union Canal where he was joined by fellow councillors, developers and planners to discuss the benefits of waterside development.
The plan is to build a new 26km canal from the Grand Union in Milton Keynes to the River Great Ouse at Kempston.
If the plan goes ahead it will create a string of waterway parks and leisure facilities along the route of the newly built canal, which it is hoped will transform the urban and rural environments as well as benefiting the communities.
Bedford and MK Waterway chair Graham Mabbutt was on hand to show the Mayor the proposed route of the waterway, before they enjoyed their lunch on board a barge with nine others.
“I have supported this project from day one and I’m pleased to see the progress that it’s making,” said Mayor White.
“We all look forward to seeing part of the waterway built in Milton Keynes shortly.”
