New maternity service to encourage home births in Milton Keynes

Milton Keynes is to have a dedicated birthing service to encourage hundreds more mums to give birth in their own homes.

The launch of the hospital’s new home birth team, comes on the back of a report critcising maternity services for Milton Keynes.

The report highlighted one of the biggest ‘failings’ was in the lack of choices in maternity care available to mums-to-be.

It is led by senior midwife Anna-Marie Madeley who said: “Women can come to us directly, access our service in early pregnancy and ensure we understand exactly how they want to give birth at home in an environment that’s safe, familiar and allows labour to progress naturally.”

Fiona West from NHS Milton Keynes, said: “The new team gives women more options about how and where they want to give birth.

“For many women, home is the most comfortable place to have a baby.”
