Milton Keynes has a new mayor - Keith McLean - who was sworn in during tonight’s mayor making ceremony.
As outgoing mayor Derek Eastman wiped away his tears after an emotional vote of thanks from his follow councillors in the chamber, Conservative councillor Keith McLean took hold of the chain.
Mr McLean said: “Derek has done an absolutely fantastic job.
“He did not have the benefit of being deputy for a year, but he took everything in his stride.”
“During my time as deputy, I have met exceptional people doing ordinary things and ordinary people doing exceptional things.
“My job now is to take the people’s view of the mayor back to what it once was. I want to help charities, businesses and residents of Milton Keynes.
“Anything I can do to promote MK, I will be there.
“We are a town now, but the questions is when will we become a city.”
