Newport Pagnell Day Nursery shows Christmas goodwill

The season of goodwill is alive and well at Meadow View Day Nursery in Newport Pagnell where staff are not only giving surprise gifts to children and their parents but also presents to families spending Christmas Day in hospital.

Manager of the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ day nursery in Westbury Lane, Elkie Taylor, spent the previous two Christmas Days in hospital with two-year-old daughter, Willow, and was delighted to receive presents for both of them.

“I loved it. It was such a wonderful gesture at a very difficult time for the family that I was determined to contribute in some way this year. As always our wonderful Meadow View parents and staff responded generously and enthusiastically to the idea,” said Elkie, before she and Willow delivered more than 20 wrapped gifts to the Riverbank Children’s Ward at Bedford Hospital.

The gifts for both children and adults who will be spending Christmas Day in the hospital ward, are just one of the goodwill initiatives at the nursery where a large box invites parents and children to take a gift and, if they want, leave a small donation for charity.

Parent presents include pamper treats like creams, bath bombs and candles donated by staff who are also making a variety of treats for children like cinnamon gingerbread play dough and crafted cones containing hot chocolate mix and mini marshmallows.

Elkie explained ‘goodwill’ is a year-long commitment at the nursery which has adopted the Alzheimer’s Society for a 12 month fund-raising drive.

“We have happy confident children, wonderfully supportive parents and a dedicated staff team. This time of the year is particularly magical for us all so we celebrate how lucky we are and remember those less fortunate,” she said.
