Nursery children learn a fun lesson about recycling for charity

Children, parents and staff at the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ day nursery collected old clothes, textiles, shoes and bags weighing nearly 23 kilos to convert into cash for the Children’s Air Ambulance.

Meadow View Deputy Manager, Holly Willshire, said: “This is a marvellous way to raise money for charity. Our parents are so generous with charity fund-raising throughout the year we wanted to find some way that didn’t involve them contributing cash, while at the same time encouraging our children to recycle and protect the environment.”

At home children helped their parents sort out used clothing, textiles and other items while staff went through their spare clothing cupboards in each age-appropriate room at the nursery.

The bagged items, stored in a special bin in the nursery, were collected, weighed and will be sold to raise cash for the Children’s Air Ambulance, the charity adopted by the nursery for a year-long fund-raising drive.

The charity has just one helicopter covering the entire country providing rapid responses times to trauma and medical emergencies for children and babies and relies totally on donations for its operation.

“This charity is very special to us as we work every day with babies and children and simply don’t want to imagine any one of them being unable to get the specialist help they need in an emergency,” said Holly.
