Karl Rayner of no fixed abode was convicted at Aylesbury Crown Court last week, after pleading guilty to burglary.

He was sentenced to 36 months’ imprisonment at the same hearing.

Following an alarm activation in April at Olney Rugby club in East Street, the key owner attended the club to find the offender still inside the premises and managed to lock him in the building.

Rayner smashed his way out of the premises and threatened the key owner and swung at him using bolt croppers. He managed to escape with money taken from inside the building and was later identified during the subsequent police investigation.

“It was fortunate that nobody was injured during this incident,” said Det Con Sarah Clement.

“I am glad that the sentence reflects the severity of the crime and the fact that Rayner was willing to resort to violence while carrying out the burglary at the club.”
