One union cancels bank holiday strike action

One trade union has called off its proposed strike action which was set to take place this weekend, while talks are ongoing with another union.

The Transport Salaried Staffs’ Association (TSSA) said it has suspended a planned bank holiday strike after receiving an improved offer from Network Rail bosses.

However members of the RMT union - which has five times as many members - are still set to strike.

The RMT has previously said its strike would bring the network “to a standstill”, and with rail operators such as London Midland and Virgin Trains cancelling services throughout Monday and Tuesday as a result.

Chiltern Railways and London Midland have confirmed they are running normal bank holiday services.
