PEOPLE aged 65 and over are being invited to take part in a study about online communities at an Age UK workshop.
An Open University expert has joined forces with Age UK to organise the high tech morning on November 1 at The Peartree Centre, Peartree Bridge between 10.30am and 1pm.
Dr Shailey Minocha is looking for a mix of people – those who are already online and using technologies such as Skype, Facebook or discussion forums and those who would like to get online but are unsure about the benefits or perceived risks.
The aim, over tea and cakes, is to study the impact of online communities on the lives of pensioners and whether they have the equipment and skills required to participate.
An OU spokesman said: “It will investigate the motivations people have for participating in online communities, the advantages they experience and the obstacles they encounter.”
