Pay and display parking rakes in £13m for Milton Keynes Council

Pay and display charges account for a hefty £9m, while parking permits paid off with a £3m income.

Another £829,000 came from penalty charge notices and excess charges paid by the public.

Milton Keynes Council spent almost £2.5m on expenses, including management fees for contractors, parking meter installation costs and staffing.

But the profit they pocketed was just under £11m.

Much of this money will be ploughed back into improving transport in the city.

Most of it will be used to subsidise passenger transport, while some be will be allocated for highways projects .

The council has decided not to invest any of the cash in providing more off street parking after surveys showed Central Milton Keynes spaces have an average weekday occupancy of just 65 per cent.

Despite this, plans for an additional multi-storey car park at CMK will still go ahead.
