WE should say a belated congratulations to the winners of this year’s Marshall Amplification Ultimate Band Contest, Peepshow.
The Scottish rock troupe went the distance not only in the competition, but also to make it to the event, travelling from their home near Edinburgh!
Aside from taking a slew of goodies on the night, and a yearlong Marshall endorsement, they can now look forward to a stint on the billing of Download 2013.
“I thought Peepshow really stood out and were the worthy winners of the Marshall UBC because they had attitude, charisma and an excellent rapport with the audience,” said Download honcho Andy Copping.
“Coupling this with good songs, a great look, strong musicianship and an air that they really really wanted it makes them a band we should look out for in the future,” he added.
“The Download crowd are going to love them.”
It was a view shared by Kerrang! magazine scribe, and fellow judge Jen Walker: “I picked Peepshow as they were the finished package,” she told City Nights. “The songs were catchy, they left you wanting more, the guys had a great look, and the frontman was awesome, which is why we also gave him the best frontman award.
“You could just tell they really wanted it!”
Eagles of Death Metal frontman Jesse Hughes joined the judging panel and a sell-out crowd to cheer on the contenders, which included new-city hopefuls Frantic Alice.
“It was a real honour for us to have been involved in the Marshall Ultimate Band competition,” said Peepshow in a collective statement, “Not only to celebrate Marshall’s 50th anniversary but to also be crowned the winners of 2012.
“It has been an experience we’ll never forget and to win a slot at Download festival too has only fuelled our voracious ambition and hunger to entertain...see you at Download 2013.”
