It will form part of a network of eight temporary sites Royal Mail is opening nationwide to support parcel deliveries during the festive period

This year, the Christmas peak is predicted to be one of the busiest ever as more consumers switch to online shopping amidst the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and associated restrictions.

The Bletchley site will be the biggest of Royal Mail’s temporary parcel sort centres in the UK. The others are located in areas including Atherstone, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Greenford in West London, Sheffield, Warrington and Northampton

Royal Mail plans to recruit approximately 900 temporary staff for the MK centre to sort the additional Christmas post before the items are delivered to the door by Royal Mail’s postmen and postwomen. These seasonal workers will be part of a nationwide drive by Royal Mail to recruit 33,000 temporary workers during the festive period.

Ricky McAulay, Field Operations Director at Royal Mail, said: “We’re really pleased to base our latest parcel sort centre in Milton Keynes given its impressive road and transport links.

"We hope that this initiative will bring welcome job opportunities to local people ahead of the festive season, as well as help us to deliver a really special Christmas for everyone this year. It’s been a testing time for so many of us.”
