Charlotte Clarke, an apprentice based at the Milton Keynes East hotel, has beaten finalists from across the UK to be named Apprentice of the Year at the Purple Umbrella Awards.

Charlotte, who is doing a commis chef apprenticeship programme, was one of a few apprentices to win the coveted award, held at a high-profile ceremony held at the iconic Savoy Hotel in London.

Candidates are nominated by their employer and then judged on their commitment, initiative in the workplace, quality of work and personal development as a result of their apprenticeship.

Charlotte said: “This apprenticeship has completely turned my life around. It has taught me to take responsibility for my own learning, how to be independent in everyday life and key skills in the kitchen to set me up for a successful career.

"To be honest I was completely shocked when they called my name as the winner. It means a lot to have confirmation that you are doing well, and this has opened lots of doors for me. Now the hard bit is choosing one."

The event, held by Umbrella Training, recognises top hospitality apprentices across the UK and is judged by a panel of respected individuals from the sector.
