Are these the worst potholes in and around Milton Keynes?

They say the entire road surface from the crossroads in Newton Longville, heading out towards Bletchley, is becoming more and more dangerous.

"There are now numerous potholes which mean driving over the other side of the road in order to avoid hitting them and causing damage to cars," said one resident.

Another said: "It’s not a road, it’s an obstacle course!"

He added: "Residents and the Parish Council have been trying for years to get Transport for Bucks to totally resurface this road, which has now become so bad that cyclists have taken to using the footpaths rather than risk being dismounted on the pot holes along this stretch of road. It is a danger to pedestrians, cyclists and even cars."

The worst part, shown in our photograph, is where Stoke Road crosses Bletchley Road.

Villagers say there have been a number of minor pot hole repairs done over the last year, but with hundreds of cars and lorries using the stretch of road they only last a matter of weeks.

"They turn up for a couple of hours and make a temporary filling in a few pot holes, which the lorries gouge out in about three weeks. What we need is a total re surface, which of course costs a lot more money - which doesn’t seem to get directed to this village," said one,

He added: "There are currently 90 comments on our village ‘Info and Selling page’ complaining about the dreadful and dangerous state of the cross roads in our village. Folk are getting absolutely fed up with being fobbed off.

"Please can you highlight our problems in the hope that someone somewhere will have the money and authority to demand that this road is completely re surfaced."

Newton Longville's roads are the responsibility of Bucks County Council's Transport for Bucks.

Their pothole reporting website, in response to one of the complaints about this road, states: "This has been added to our programme of works. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide you with a timescale for this work to be carried out. We work on a priority based risk matrix in line with our Highway Inspection Policy and therefore programme times can change due to priority based working."

It adds: "Please be assured this is on our list of works to be carried out, we will continue to monitor all defects to ensure the safety of our residents as part of our Highways Inspection Policy."

The Citizen has asked Bucks County Council for a comment. We are awaiting a reply.
