UPDATE 12.30 MAY 8

Fifty councils across the country have counted their votes so far and Reform UK is now even further ahead with 432 seats. The Lib Dems have overtaken both the Conservative and Labour parties with 271 seats. The Conservatives follow at 269 and Labour has 255 seats. Milton Keynes is yet to reveal its count.

UPDATE 10.45AM MAY 8

The May 7 elections across England, Scotland and Wales are the biggest set of elections since the general election in 2024, with 136 English councils conducting a vote.

The full results will be revealed later on, as many councils, including Milton Keynes, have not yet counted their votes. But 46 out of the 136 councils have already revealed their counts.

Out of those 46 councils, Reform UK is in the lead with 398 seats, it seems to have made gains at the expense of the Labour and Conservative parties.

It’s a very close call between the next three parties with the Conservatives at 256, Labour at 253 and the Liberal Democrat at 249. They are followed by the Green Party and then the Residents' Association.

We will get a clearer picture later on as more results are revealed.

UPDATE 5.20PM MAY 7

The Newport Pagnell Mayor announced on Facebook that votes will be counted on Friday, May 8. He added that with over 300 candidates for 60 seats, he expects it will take many hours before we learn the results.

The May 7 election for Milton Keynes City Council is one of the biggest yet, with a record 310 candidates standing for 60 council seats across 21 wards. A first-of-its-kind Central Voting Hub has also been launched in the city centre this year, as part of a government trial to make voting more convenient.

New central voting hub

A Polling Day Central Voting Hub has been opened in Midsummer Place, near Waterstones. Milton Keynes residents who are visiting the city centre are welcome to vote there, instead of having to travel back to their usual polling station.

The hub will be open from 7am to 10pm, making it easier to fit voting into a busy day. As with all polling stations, voters will need to bring photographic ID to receive a ballot paper.

Sharon Bridglalsingh, the Returning Officer for Milton Keynes City Council said: “I’m hoping that by bringing the polling station to where people are - where they work, they shop, they meet their friends - that it’s making it easier and more accessible for people to cast their vote on Thursday.”

The Central Voting Hub is being piloted in Milton Keynes as part of a government trial. Similar approaches are currently used in the United States, where they are known as Super Precincts.

The City Council has worked closely with local groups to support voters with impairments and learning difficulties. The hub will be equipped with McGonagle Readers and assistive devices. Fully trained staff will also be on hand to offer assistance where needed.

Ward Boundaries

This year, changes have been made to local ward boundaries following a national review which takes place every ten years. The number of councillors in Milton Keynes has risen from 57 to 60, and the number of wards from 19 to 21.

Most wards will elect three councillors, with New Bradwell electing two and Hanslope one. Residents can check their poll card to see which ward they are in and where to vote. All Milton Keynes residents also have the option of voting for their specific ward at the new Central Voting Hub.
